Drafting/panning/organisation of magazine, photography and artists (Solo artist research)
Above are pictures of the celebrity Phoebe Lettice Tompson. I have used her as inspiration as to the way i want my solo artist to dress like when i come to taking my own original photography.
I have chosen this celebrity as she dresses very grungey and would fit the role of a solo indie/rock artist for a girl.
This is good research and inspiration for me to have on my blog as i want my solo artist to be a female. This will help me in my main task.
Drafting/Planning into magazine layout/colour scheme evaluation
Here i have took a Q magazine front cover and looked for the different colours which have been used.
I did this because i know that one of the codes and conventions of a magazine is the colour scheme used, the colours need to be kept consistent for the magazine to look professional and achieve its purpose.

Drafting/planning of magazine layout, photography and article (a double page spread)
Here is a double page spread which i have created using my researched ideas for double page spreads. On the left side of the page I have used a image of the artist which has been wrote about within the article itself. This is important so that the audience is clear to who the article is about. I have also used the colours within the main image to influence the fonts used on the right hand side of the double page spread.
To improve this i could also think about using a 'pull out' quote which attracts the reader to read the article. I have tried to keep the colour scheme as basic as possible so that the article is easy to follow and looks professional.
I will be able to refer back to this planning to gain ideas into how i will want my double page spread to look for my main task.

Drafting/Planning of magazine (Magazine name ideas)
I have started to experiment with magazine names and the typography that i will use.
Here are some of the ideas i have came up with.
Here are some of the ideas i have came up with.
Research into similar products
Here are some examples of double page spreads from Q and NME magazine that I would like my magazine to be like. I like these double page spreads because they are clear as to what genre of music the magazine and article is on.
The star of the magazine is clear to the audience, the main cover is clear in all of them and all of them i would personally be attracted to read.
I will used these as inspiration for my magazine.
Drafting/Planning of magazine and photography
Here, I have edited photos to suit my genre of music 'Rock'. I tried to make the photos look 'edgy' and even old (the black and white edit) to suit my genre of music.

Research into my potential target audience (Questionnaire on the content of my magazine)
I have made a questionnaire which i will hand out to people to find out what they want to see in my magazine. When all of my questionnaires have been completed i will then look at my results to help me know what is most popular. This will help me in my main task.

Research into costumes and props
I tried to research both males and females so that i know what look my artists should have when i produce my main task.
Costumes;
I noticed that the costumes which the artists wear are mainly dark clothing.
This is used to represent the type of music that they produce.
When i begin to make my own magazine i will need to think carefully about the clothes which they are wearing.
Here i have done research into typical Rock band. I have done this to gain ideas into what sort of clothes they wear, their hair and makeup. I will use this research to try and dress my models in similar clothing.
Hair and makeup;
The hair and makeup of the artists is very dark as well. However, some of the hair of rock artists from my research is also very different such as pinks and reds. From my research i have noticed that the hair and makeup is very unusual and they all portray some sort of a gothic look.
This research has helped me to see what a typical rock band or artist looks like. I will be able to use this post to refer back to when i come to producing original photography in my main task.
Drafting/Planning of my magazine and actors
Here I have used the website 'Rock Star Name Generator' to gain more ideas into what my solo artists names will be. I used several random names and selected the names out of the generator which i liked the most. The four favorite names which i liked were 'Kelly Deville', 'Eve Black', 'Danni Raines' and 'Pat Savage'.
I will use these names to inspire me and let me gain ideas into what my artists names will be for my main task.
Drafting/planning of my actors
I have continued to make more research into my band name. I used the website band name maker to help me come up with band names which i like. I have used the names that I liked from my first bit of research on the visual thesaurus. I used the names 'swing', 'displace', 'strange' and 'uncommon'. From this website, i decided that i liked the band names 'Swing Nevada , 'Despite Displace' 'Strange Illusion' and 'Between Uncommon'. I liked these band names in particular as i think that they suit the genre of music, being rock, which i have chosen.
Making this research has again gave me more inspiration into what my band name will be.
Research/drafting/panning into my actors
From this, i decided to type in the word swing, where a lot of words came up. Some of which weren't of any help or use for me but others proved to be useful. I liked the words such as 'displace' 'mechanical device' 'swing over' 'swing out' 'live' and so on. I liked these word as the reminded me of things which are in action. I think that this is suitable for my music genre as its a very lively and loud type of music.
I also decided to type in the word 'gothic' as the gothic look is usually the look that rock artists would be portraying. From this, i liked the words such as 'strange' and unusual'. I liked these two words as i think that within rock, the artists that you come across can be both strange and unusual and is something that i may want to consider making my artists be when i produce my main task.
I decided to click on the word unusual which then came up with words such as 'uncommon' and 'unaccustomed' which are words which i think would be quite catchy as a band name.
This task has helped me to gain some ideas into what i would like to call my artists in my main task. I will continue to do more research into artists names to give me more inspiration.

Remake - Remodel task
For this task I chosen an existing magazine and created a front cover in the style of my chosen magazine. In this case, I used Top of the Pops and came up with original photography, cover lines, fonts and topics in which i thought would suit the particular magazine. I also annotated my magazine to identify all of the codes and conventions which i have used, and why they are used/why i have used them.
Although this is a different genre of music to what my main task is going to be, this will help me in the future when i come to designing my own magazine. I will be able to refer back to this as a part of my planning to gain ideas and know what my own magazine should include. This has also helped me to practice creating magazines using my own original photography, also benefiting me for future tasks.
ETHOS/PHILOSIPHYThis what you would expect to see on the cover of a particular type of magazine.
I have matched the ethos/philosophy of my magazine to my chosen layout, fonts and original photography. I have done this by aiming my main image to young teenage girls (my target audience). This is by having a young face on the magazine and choosing a costume which would also appeal to that age group. I have also used young stars who are recognized by young teenagers and suit the pop genre of music. I have thought about the font i have used carefully so that it seems young, fun and isn't too serious. For these reasons i believe that i have met the ethos/philosophy of my magazine.
